Play the word before writing it
Guessing a word letter by letter makes a child look at its shape — which letters, in which order, and what is left when some are ruled out. That is the same attention a spelling test asks for, arriving voluntarily.

Then look, cover, write, check
The printed sheets follow the method most schools use: see the word, cover it, write it from memory, check. Twice, then use it in a sentence, because a word you can spell and cannot use is half learned.

Keep the list to the age, not the ability
The bands are built from a graded vocabulary list rather than from difficulty, so a child who reads well still gets words they have met. Stretching a confident reader with unfamiliar vocabulary teaches guessing, not spelling.

Each sheet has its own address and never regenerates, so the copy you photocopied in September is the copy you print again in October for the child who lost theirs.

Spelling practice, answered
Where do the spelling words come from?
A graded vocabulary list, checked against how common each word actually is in ordinary writing. Words draw only from the chosen band, and a thin band is never topped up from the adult pool.
Can I choose my own spelling list?
Not yet on the sheets. The blank guessing grids work with any word you like, though — pick the word yourself and the class plays yours.
How many sheets are there?
Twelve per age band, and no two share a word, so a band is twelve genuinely different sheets rather than twelve shuffles of one.
Do the sheets print properly?
Yes — the page is built to print. Everything except the sheet itself is left off the paper, and the sheet is black on white whatever theme you are using on screen.
Is there a cost or a login for the sheets?
Neither. Print as many as you like. There is nothing to download and no account at any point.
