How to Run a Bingo Round

1. 1

   Six Cards, All Different

   Every sheet holds six cards and no two are the same. That is the point of a set — a class playing on identical cards all shout at the same moment, and nobody has read anything. Print one sheet per six players and cut them apart.

2. 2

   Read the Word, Do Not Show It

   The call list is at the bottom of the sheet. Read a word aloud, use it in a sentence, then read it again — that is the way it is set out in every teacher's guide to this game. Holding the word up defeats it: a child who cannot read WAS can still match the letters.

3. 3

   Four in a Row Wins

   Across, down or corner to corner. Then the winner reads their four words back before the next round starts, which is the part that turns a marked square into a word somebody knows.

4. 4

   One Group at a Time

   The sets are split into the six groups Dolch published — 40 pre-primer words, 52 primer, then 41, 47 and 41 for the first three grades, and 95 picture nouns. Print the one your class is working on.
